What counts as the story?

For example, in D/P, Team Galactic tries to capture the Pokemon of time/space, respectively. This is aside from Gym battles and such.

In R/S, Team Magma/Aqua try to capture the Pokemon of Land/sea, respectively, but this is also aside from the Pokemon League.

So, my question is, do the Gym Leader Battles and Silcoh League in general count towards the story?

It depends. In Platinum Wake played a minor role in the story and he was a gym leader. And let's not forget Cynthia!

But here's what I think:
Anything involving Silcoh in general is being/will be disscussed in the "Siloch Region" Topic.
Anything involving the specifics and generals of the STORY (Charecters, their roles, signifigant locations etc.) is to be disscused here.

Well, yes, Wake is an exception, and Wallace was too. But those have nothing to do with Gym battling.
